Spark of Curiosity, Goa
Experiential Science Education for Government Schools
Spark of Curiosity is an experiential STEM outreach initiative by Tare Zameen Par, undertaken in collaboration with the Goa State Council of Educational Research and Training (GSCERT) and the Government of Goa.
The programme was officially inaugurated on 15 April 2026 in Goa under GSCERT, marking the launch of a mobile STEM and digital planetarium initiative designed to bring engaging, hands-on science and space education to government and government-aided schools across the state.
Inaugurated By
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa
Dr. Pramod Sawant
The inauguration was attended by senior officials from the Education Department and GSCERT. The launch included the flag-off of the mobile STEM and digital planetarium van, along with STEM demonstrations, a water rocket activity and a planetarium experience for students and dignitaries.
The Need for Experiential Science Education
In many government schools, students primarily rely on theoretical learning due to limited access to laboratory infrastructure, scientific tools, and interactive teaching methods.
As a result:
- Science concepts remain abstract and difficult to grasp
- Student engagement levels are low
- Curiosity and questioning are often limited
- Exposure to advanced topics like space science is minimal
The Spark of Curiosity project addresses these challenges by introducing hands-on, visual, and immersive learning experiences directly within school campuses.
Project Overview
The Spark of Curiosity – Goa Project is a structured two-day school engagement program delivered through a fully equipped mobile science van.
The program combines:
- Expert-led science sessions
- Myth-busting educational films
- A 360-degree digital planetarium experience
- Interactive student engagement activities
This ensures that every student not only learns scientific concepts but experiences them in a memorable and impactful way.
How the Project Works
The mobile science van visits government schools and stays for two days, delivering a complete, guided learning experience.
The duration may be extended based on the number of participating students.
Day 1: Concept Building & Scientific Thinking
- Interactive sessions on space science and fundamental concepts.
- Simplified explanations aligned with the school curriculum.
- Screening of a short educational film addressing myths about space.
- 360-degree digital planetarium setup within the school premises.
- Guided exploration of planets, stars, galaxies, and the universe.
Day 2: Immersive Learning Experience
- Engaging science classes conducted by expert educators.
- Live experiments using science exhibits for hands-on understanding.
- Demonstration-based learning to simplify complex concepts.
- Student interaction and open Q&A sessions to reinforce learning.
Strategic Partnerships & Implementation
This project is implemented in collaboration with:
- Government of Goa
- GSCERT (Goa State Council of Educational Research and Training)
- Concept designed and delivered by Taare Zameen Par.
This partnership ensures educational relevance, structured execution, and large-scale outreach.
Expected Outcomes
The Spark of Curiosity – Goa Project aims to deliver measurable improvements in student learning and engagement by transforming the way science is experienced in classrooms.
- Better understanding of scientific concepts: Through visual, interactive, and hands-on learning methods, students are able to grasp complex topics more easily compared to traditional textbook-based learning.
- Increased student participation and interest in science: The immersive nature of the program encourages active involvement, making students more enthusiastic and engaged during and after the sessions.
- Development of curiosity-driven learning behavior: By encouraging students to ask questions, explore ideas, and challenge common myths, the program nurtures a natural sense of curiosity and a habit of inquiry.
- Improved critical thinking and analytical skills: Exposure to real-world demonstrations and guided explanations helps students think logically, analyze information, and apply concepts effectively in different contexts.
