Mobile Science Lab – Leh-Ladakh

Bringing the Laboratory to the Learner

The Mobile Science Lab (MSL) is a specially designed mobile learning facility developed to provide students in remote areas with access to practical science and mathematics education. Conceptualized by Tare Zameen Par Trust and built by Varnaaz Technologies, the initiative addresses the need for hands-on learning opportunities in schools with limited laboratory infrastructure.

In April 2022, a batch of custom-built 5 Mobile Science Lab vans was delivered to the Ladakh School Education Department for use in remote regions, including Kargil and Changthang.

Designed for Experiential Learning

The Mobile Science Lab combines practical experimentation, working models and digital learning resources within a customized vehicle. It is equipped to support 100+ science and mathematics experiments, giving students an opportunity to understand concepts through demonstrations and practical activities.

The laboratory is designed around three key learning elements:

Experiment: Science and mathematics kits enable practical demonstrations and experimentation across a range of concepts.

Explore: Interactive exhibits and working models help students understand how scientific principles relate to real-world systems.

Engage: Digital content, visual learning resources and interactive demonstrations create an engaging environment for learning.

Inside the Mobile Science Lab

100+ Experiments: A collection of innovative science kits and exhibits designed to support practical learning in science and mathematics.

Interactive Science Models: Working models demonstrate real-world scientific systems, including the petrol and diesel engine, human heart and kidney, along with other science concepts.

75-Inch Smart Display: A large LED smart screen supports educational videos, digital presentations and virtual interactions with experts and distinguished personalities.

Interactive Experiment Window: A dedicated experimental workspace allows teachers or facilitators to conduct demonstrations while students observe and engage with the activity.

Public Address System: An integrated audio system supports clear communication during demonstrations and group learning sessions.

Educational Visuals: The vehicle features educational graphics incorporating science diagrams, mathematics tricks, puzzles and interesting science facts, extending the learning experience beyond the laboratory equipment.

Built for Remote Regions

The MSL was designed with the geographical and educational requirements of remote regions in mind. Its mobile format allows practical learning resources to be taken beyond conventional laboratory spaces and closer to students in geographically challenging locations.

The project demonstrates how purpose-built educational infrastructure can combine mobility, technology and practical learning to support science education in underserved regions.

The Mobile Science Lab initiative in Leh-Ladakh brings practical science and mathematics learning closer to students in remote and geographically challenging regions.
Designed and built to support 100+ experiments, interactive models, and digital learning, it provides schools with a modern, mobile laboratory experience.
